Applesauce Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

•INGREDIENTS:

For the Cake:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

•INSTRUCTIONS:

Prepare the Cake:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated.

Mix in the applesauce and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

Bake the Cake:

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting:

In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until well combined.

Mix in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon until smooth.

Frost the Cake:

Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the cinnamon cream cheese frosting evenly over the top and sides of the cake.
