Salt on the mop: why use it?
It is not uncommon that when we use rags to carry out various cleaning tasks around the house, we forget to disinfect them. This is a big mistake because you could have the opposite effect and make your house even dirtier.
The activity of using salt on a mop fits precisely into this context. This is an operation that eliminates germs and bacteria from the mop: yes, because if on the one hand the mop is very useful and comfortable, it can also be a mass of bacteria and germs if it is not cleaned periodically.
Salt on the mop: how to use it
But how do you use salt on a mop ? First of all, it must be said that you should never leave the mop in a bucket of dirty water: this would give rise to a series of germs and bacteria, as well as an unbearable odor.
Some clean with bleach, others with baking soda, but our advice is to use salt. This inexpensive and very practical remedy seems almost miraculous. Simply use a tablespoon of salt on your mop, add about a quart of water to the bucket, and let it sit for an hour .
Coarse salt has been used for centuries to sterilize surfaces and objects. In reality, it’s the combination of salt and water that creates an osmotic action that kills bacteria in the blink of an eye.
Salt is undoubtedly a very economical and practical solution for cleaning your mop.
Other remedies
To clean the mop, as we have already mentioned, there are other remedies. For example, some people also add the juice of a few lemons in addition to salt and then soak the rags and entire mop for a few hours.
Others find it useful to take advantage of the action of sodium bicarbonate, combined with salt; although there are even those who use infusions and oils like tea tree oil. It is a special solution that has antibacterial properties and can eliminate bad odors in a short time. Simply proceed the same way, pouring the solution into the bucket and letting everything soak for at least an hour.
