•INGREDIENTS:
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3-4 large potatoes, thinly sliced (or substitute with pasta)
1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp paprika or chili powder (optional for extra flavor)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
•INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika/chili powder (if using).
3. Prepare the potatoes: Thinly slice the potatoes and layer them in the bottom of a greased baking dish.
4. Assemble the casserole: Spread the cooked beef mixture over the potato layer. Optionally, add a can of diced tomatoes over the beef.
5. Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
6. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
7. Garnish: Once out of the oven, garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
